Course overview
This ABBE (Awarding Body of the Built Environment) accredited online course gives candidates the skills to diagnose property defects and ensure the right repairs orders are raised.
Five modules are needed to be awarded the certificate. These can be taken as standalone one-day courses, or combined to achieve the ABBE Certificate which is a nationally recognised qualification in housing circles. The courses are designed for non-technical staff in housing management such as estates/neighbourhood officers, repairs call centre staff, receptionists or administrators; effectively anyone whose job involves working with domestic properties for housing management companies.
The five courses include:

- Basic Building Construction
- Damp, Condensation & Mould
- Plumbing, Wastes and Drains
- Domestic Electrical and Heating Installations
- Repairs Reporting Skills
Flexible Format
The qualification has a flexible online learning modular format.
Following the five courses there is a half-day assessment. This means you can attend the courses when it suits you and your organisation, and gradually accumulate the credits you need to gain the certificate.
You can attend the courses in any order, although we recommend that you do ‘Repairs Reporting Skills’ last, as this is a good reminder of all the topics covered.
ABBE Assessment
Upkeep Training will register you as a candidate with ABBE – ask us for the registration form. The assessment lasts half a day and covers all the key topics from the courses you will have completed.
The questions will be similar to the practical work involved as part of the course modules.

- Short answer questions
- Long answer questions.

If you have already attended any of these courses at Upkeep, you may be able to get a credit towards the certificate.

26 hours spread over 5 courses various dates available - plus further half day session for examination.
